Barcelona will reportedly need to fend off stiff competition from AC Milan in the race to sign Arsenal attacker Gabriel Martinelli.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Gabriel Martinelli is the subject of interest from AC Milan. The Serie A champions will provide stiff competition to Barcelona in the race to sign the Arsenal attacker. But the Gunners will unlikely entertain offers for the Brazilian international.

Gabriel Martinelli has shown the importance of patience since joining Arsenal from Ituano in July 2019. The 21-year-old was always considered as one of the best young attackers in the world during this period. But the guiding hand of Mikel Arteta has worked wonders for the youngster.

Now an indispensable figure for Arsenal, Martinelli has five goals and two assists in 20 outings across all competitions. In addition, the Brazilian international has looked impressive for his nation at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. And the player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona and AC Milan setting their sights on him.

Barcelona might have to enter the market for an attacking reinforcement next year despite heavily bolstering the offensive unit this year. But with Memphis Depay’s future up in the air, Barcelona will have to scour the market for a replacement. And Martinelli has emerged as a viable target for the Blaugrana.

On the other hand, AC Milan will likely have to delve into the market for an attacking addition next year. With Rafael Leao’s future increasingly uncertain, the Serie A champions need to be ready for his departure. While the Portuguese international is in talks over a new contract, his future remains up in the air.

Recent reports have heavily linked Leao with an exit, with Barcelona among his prospective suitors. Martinelli is thus an option worth considering for AC Milan. But Arsenal will unlikely entertain any offers for the in-form Brazilian international.

Martinelli is a pivotal figure for Arsenal. And with Arsenal keen on tying Martinelli to a new deal, the north Londoners will scoff at the possibility of selling him. But it will be interesting to see if Barcelona or AC Milan can tempt the 21-year-old with an offer next year.
