Chelsea reportedly view Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo as their top midfield target.

Simon Phillips has told Give Me Sport Moises Caicedo is high on Chelsea’s transfer wish list. And the west London club could look to sign the 21-year-old Ecuador international during the summer transfer window.

Journalist Simon Phillips told GMS: “He’s definitely on the list and I’d say quite high on that list. With the Potter connections, he’s a name I’ve been given a few times recently.”

Moises Caicedo has been a key player for Brighton since joining the club in 2021, and he was impressive for his country in the World Cup as well. It is no surprise that the top clubs like Chelsea are looking to sign him. The 21-year-old has the potential to develop into a world-class footballer in the future, and Graham Potter knows all about him having worked with him at Brighton.

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea can convince Brighton to sell them their prized midfield prospect in the summer transfer window. The Blues could lose key players like Jorginho and and N’Golo Kante at the end of the season. Both players will be out of contract in the summer, and Chelsea have not been able to agree on contract extensions with either of them.

While Caicedo is a central midfielder and could be a quality replacement for Jorginho, the Blues will need to bring in a quality defensive midfielder to replace Kante. The 21-year-old Brighton midfielder is likely to be tempted to move to Stamford Bridge. And a switch to Chelsea could allow him to experience regular European football as well.

Playing alongside better players at the west London club could accelerate his development and help him fulfil his tremendous potential. The Seagulls have him tied down to a long-term contract, and they are likely to demand a premium if their fellow Premier League club come calling in the coming months.

That said, Chelsea have the financial resources to pull off the transfer. New owner Todd Boehly was quite active in the market at the start of the season and is expected to spend heavily once again. Chelsea will be hoping to challenge for the Premier League title next season, and they will need to improve the midfield options in order to match up to teams like Manchester City.
