Manchester City are the latest entrants in the race for West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice, a target for Liverpool and Manchester United.

As informed by Sports Witness, Manchester City might be interested in making a move for Declan Rice. There have been growing concerns over his long-term future at West Ham United as he will enter the last year of his contract next summer. The English international is also a target for Liverpool and Manchester United.

Manchester City have a pretty extensive range of midfielders, and they also brought in Kalvin Philips from Leeds United in the summer on top of that. But Ilkay Gundogan is in the last year of his contract, and there is a very high possibility that the German international might decide to call it a day next summer.

Pep Guardiola will feel the need to fill Gundogan’s void, and Rice’s name has popped up. The 23-year-old has emerged as the most sought-after midfielder and has been in demand as a number of Premier League bigwigs, including Liverpool and Manchester United, are chasing his signature. And considering he could leave West Ham next summer, a move might be on the cards.

Liverpool’s midfield contingent needs some major fixing, and Jurgen Klopp is eyeing at least two major additions to his midfield department. 2022/23 could be the last campaign for James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the Liverpool jersey, while Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson have their fair share of injury issues.

Meanwhile, Manchester United will undergo another major overhaul next summer, and Erik ten Hag wants at least one central midfielder in his squad. The arrival of Casemiro has eased their pressure. But adequate reinforcements are to be needed if they are to challenge the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

Manchester City won’t have a dearth of funds as they might cash in on some of their existing players. West Ham’s underwhelming fortunes could do a big favour to the reigning champions, as they are still struggling to get themselves acquainted with the mid-table battle and might not even finish in the top ten.

Playing in the UEFA Champions League has always been an ambition for most players, and Rice cannot let go of this golden opportunity. However, Manchester City will have to battle Liverpool and Manchester United and might have a strong case to project.
