Tottenham Hotspur could be set to pounce on Emiliano Martinez as the Argentine international might be on his way out of Aston Villa.

As per Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a deal for Argentine international Emiliano Martinez, who might be leaving Aston Villa sooner or later.

Tottenham have been on the lookout for a long-time successor to Hugo Lloris, who is certainly past his prime. The Tottenham captain has been pretty error-prone this term, and the north London club might take the number one baton from him to pass it to his worthy replacement.

A number of names have popped up recently, including David Raya. And Emiliano Martinez is the latest to enter that list. The former Arsenal goalkeeper is one of the finest between the sticks in the Premier League, but his relationship with Unai Emery could be a concern for Aston Villa.

The Spanish manager did not quite hit it off with the player during his time at the Emirates, and the fractured relationship might affect the present scenario. Martinez has been arguably one of the best Aston Villa players since he left the Gunners to join the Midlands outfit. But the Villa boss does not really rate him highly.

A reasonable drop in form this season could be noted. But the club management is quite happy with the 30-year-old Argentine international, and he penned a new deal in January this year extending his stay for a further five years.

Tottenham are aware of Martinez’s potential and could make an enquiry about whether a deal is possible. Having tied the 30-year-old for an elongated period, the Aston Villa hierarchy could charge a bomb as they view him as a part of their plans for a much longer period.

Martinez has been a regular for Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and will be in the goal when La Albiceleste bid for a place in the knockouts when they will face Poland in their penultimate group-stage game.

Tottenham’s recruitment team will be having a keen watch on the player, and there could be a lot of interested parties if he is placed on the transfer market next summer.
