Leeds United are reportedly keen on signing Flamengo attacker Pedro, who has an £86 million release clause, in the January transfer window.

According to Give Me Sport, Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch wants to bring Pedro to Elland Road when the transfer window re-opens in January. The Brazilian winger has a release clause worth £86 million in his Flamengo contract.

Leeds United have had a disappointing season so far, and they are in need of reinforcements. A quality signing in January could help them transform their season. It will be interesting to see if they can agree on a deal with Flamengo for the 25-year-old.

Pedro, who courted Premier League interest in the summer, has been in fine form for the Brazilian club this season, and he could be a quality addition to the Leeds attack. The Brazilian winger will add pace, flair and goals to Marsch’s attack if he manages to adapt to English football quickly.

The player was linked with a move to Leeds in the past as well, but he chose not to leave Brazil as he wanted to continue his development with regular game time. Pedro is now entering his peak years, and the time might be right for him to try out a new challenge. A move to Leeds could be the ideal step up in his career.

Apparently, former Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa wanted to sign the player as well. Pedro is already a part of the Brazilian national team setup and it will be interesting to see if Flamengo are prepared to cash in on the player in the coming weeks.

The attacker has scored 29 goals and 10 assists across all competitions, and he could be an upgrade on the likes of Patrick Bamford and Rodrigo Moreno. Leeds have also shown interest in other attackers like Noa Lang.

Journalist Ben Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT, “He’s a player that Leeds have been monitoring, even before Jesse Marsch came in, Bielsa really liked him too. At the point when Bielsa was tracking him, Pedro didn’t want to leave and thought that it was not the right move to go to a Premier League club.

“He wanted consistency where he was at. Now he’s found that form and he’s broken through into the international setup, as well. He’s scoring goals with regularity and it’d be interesting to see whether Leeds try and get ahead of the game here and if off the back of a World Cup, where he may or may not feature significantly, they choose to escalate that deal.”

Leeds might have to pay a premium for him, given the fact that he has a contract with Flamengo until 2025. The player has a release clause of around £86 million. It is unlikely any club will want to pay the release clause for Pedro and it remains to be seen whether Leeds can negotiate a more reasonable fee for the attacker in the coming weeks.
