Chelsea and Manchester United are monitoring the situation of FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa and might initiate talks in near future.

As per Relevo, Manchester United and Chelsea are looking to make contact with the entourage of Porto custodian Diogo Costa to enquire the possibility of a potential move.

Costa has emerged as a new target for Premier League clubs as the 23-year-old’s stellar form has attracted lots of suitors. He recently signed a long-term contract to extend his stay at the club which also includes a hefty release clause.

Manchester United have been searching for a suitable successor for David de Gea as the Spaniard has found it difficult to get the ball rolling under the tutelage of Erik ten Hag.

The Dutch manager ideally wants his keeper to be swift with his feet and he must incorporate his skills to help his high defensive line. The 32-year-old has seemingly improved his performance but United have looked at other solution.

Costa’s agent Jorge Mendes is very keen to offer his client to Premier League and also have tapped Chelsea in an attempt to facilitate a move. Since Graham Potter’s arrival, Edouard Mendy has fallen in the pecking order as the English man has mostly preferred Kepa Arizzabalaga in the goal.

Mendy is not satisfied with his current situation and might explore other options if he continues to be ignored at the expense of Kepa. Chelsea might have to find a new man in the goal and Costa will fit the bill perfectly.

The youngster has already hit the right chord in his brief career and is destined for more success. But he will not play a second fiddle at Stamford Bridge should he arrive in London. He became the first-ever goalkeeper to have three penalties saved in the Champions League group stage and his passing range is also quite commendable.

Manchester United are yet to take a decision on de Gea’s future, and it could come down to his wage which is creating a stumbling block in the negotiations. Irrespective of their keeper conundrum the Red Devils will likely sign a new custodian as Dean Henderson will certainly leave next summer.
