Youssoufa Moukoko is reportedly harbouring dreams of joining Barcelona, although he remains committed to Borussia Dortmund.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Youssoufa Moukoko is keen on joining Barcelona. But the teenage prodigy will prefer to sign a new contract with Borussia Dortmund if the terms are favourable. Nonetheless, the 18-year-old’s stance has handed Barcelona a boost in his pursuit.

Youssoufa Moukoko has been under the spotlight since joining Borussia Dortmund from FC St. Pauli half a dozen years ago. The teenage wonderkid made such a remarkable impact at the club that Bundesliga had to amend a rule to ensure his early debut as a 16-year-old. Since then, he has made gradual progress at the club level.

The 18-year-old struggled for game time when Erling Haaland was at Borussia Dortmund. But he has featured regularly for the Black and Yellows this season, amassing six goals and six assists in 22 appearances. But Moukoko is in the final year of his contract, with his situation capturing the attention of Barcelona.

Barcelona signed Robert Lewandowski this past summer, with the veteran striker being top-notch thus far. But the Polish international is well into his thirties and approaching the final phase of his illustrious career. So Barcelona cannot afford to be in a situation where they have to scramble around the market to seek a successor.

The Catalan outfit already suffered once when they failed to fill Luis Suarez’s void at Spotify Camp Nou. Barcelona will thus be eager to lay down a succession plan for Lewandowski, with several strikers emerging on their radar. One of the options is Moukoko, a highly sought-after forward in the market.

The 18-year-old fits in the mould of players the Catalan giants have targeted lately: those approaching the end of their contracts. And according to SPORT, Moukoko dreams of joining Barcelona, handing the Blaugrana a boost. But the German international will prioritise staying at Borussia Dortmund, although his wage demands might not ensure that.

For now, Moukoko will be eager to shine for Germany at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The teenager recently earned his debut for Die Mannschaft and might feature prominently in Qatar. But it will be interesting to see if he realises his Camp Nou dream and moves to Barcelona anytime soon.
