Borussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko reportedly wants a €7 million-a-year deal amid interest from Barcelona and Liverpool.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Youssoufa Moukoko will seek a contract worth a whopping €7 million per year from his next club if he leaves Borussia Dortmund. The teenage prodigy is a target for Barcelona and Liverpool, among others.
Youssoufa Moukoko is one of the most prodigious young attackers to have emanated from a German club’s youth division in recent years. The 17-year-old joined Borussia Dortmund half a dozen years ago and made his first-team debut a day after turning 16 in November 2020. Since then, he has made gradual progress at the Bundesliga club.
The German under-21 international has enjoyed a solid 2022/23 campaign thus far, amassing six goals and six assists in 1098 minutes of game time for Borussia Dortmund. But the Bundesliga giants are in a spot of bother over Moukoko’s long-term future as he is in the final months of his contract. Such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona and Liverpool.
Barcelona signed Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich this past summer. And while the Pole has been prolific for the Blaugrana, he is in the twilight of his illustrious career. So Barcelona will have to lay down a succession plan for Lewandowski, bringing Moukoko into the picture.
But the Catalan giants face stiff competition from Liverpool in the race to sign the 17-year-old. The Merseyside outfit signed Darwin Nunez in the summer transfer window. But with Roberto Firmino approaching the final phase of his career, Moukoko is a viable target for Liverpool.
Recent reports have claimed that the Reds are the front-runners to sign the 17-year-old. But Barcelona and Liverpool will need to loosen their purse strings, with Moukoko demanding a deal worth €7 million per year. Such a demand can emerge as a setback for both his suitors as they have their financial issues.
