Barcelona set sights on Arda Guler

La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing 17-year-old Turkish wonderkid Arda Guler from Fenerbahce.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Arda Guler has emerged on the radar of FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants are closely monitoring the progress of the 17-year-old Turkish wonderkid. In addition, Napoli and Bayern Munich are interested in the Fenerbahce attacker.

Arda Guler is one of the brightest young prospects in Turkey. The teenage wonderkid started his youth career at Genclerbirligi before joining Fenerbahce in 2019. And the youngster has made swift progress at the Istanbul-based club in the last three years. He made his first-team debut as a 16-year-old last season before becoming a regular this term.

The 17-year-old has featured fairly regularly in the 2022/23 season, chipping in with three goals and one assist in 13 appearances thus far. The Turkish wonderkid has also earned a call-up to the national side for the two friendlies this month. And Guler’s progress has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona.

Barcelona will delve into the market for an attacking reinforcement in the 2023 summer transfer window. Amid uncertainties surrounding the futures of Memphis Depay and Ferran Torres, the Blaugrana will need to make the required changes. While Guler will not be a like-for-like replacement for either player, he can play on the flanks.

Alternatively, the 17-year-old Turkish wonderkid might also be a solution in midfield. Xavi Hernandez has banked on two teenage prodigies in Pedri and Gavi in the middle of the park. And adding Guler to the mix might set Barcelona up for over a decade if he continues his rapid progress.

But Barcelona will not be the only high-profile European club vying for his signature. Recent reports have also claimed that the Turkish prodigy is a target for Tottenham. Meanwhile, Fichajes adds that Napoli and Bayern Munich are also keeping tabs on the progress of the 17-year-old.

So Barcelona will have to be decisive when the time comes to launch the offensive for Guler. For now, the Catalan giants continue to monitor several highly-rated prospects, with some of the others being Charlie O’Connell, Angelo Gabriel, and Charlie Patino.
