Everton are monitoring the progress of Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek and might be interested in a transfer in January or in the summer.

According to Simon Phillips, Ruben Loftus-Cheek is a target for Everton, and the Toffees are ready to move in with a teasing bid. The English midfielder has been pretty regular in the Chelsea setup this season as both Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter seem to have a love affair with his ability on the pitch.

Chelsea’s reluctance of loaning their talented players has had some major repercussions in recent times as several players have been underutilised, particularly due to this policy.

Loftus-Cheek had a number of successful loan auditions at fellow London clubs Crystal Palace and Fulham. And his career is finally heading down the right course at Stamford Bridge.

The Chelsea academy product has impressed in a number of outings and has been a permanent fixture in the midfield under the tutelage of Potter. He might have missed the World Cup berth by a slender margin, but his recent performances could bring him some significant gains in the latter part of his career.

Frank Lampard has been fighting to keep Everton out of the relegation race as they are flirting with the drop zone with just one point separating them from the bottom three.

Lampard is impressed by the player’s tenacity and will be gunning for a move in January. A loan move with an option to buy might suit both parties. But Everton might find it difficult to convince Chelsea as they are already pretty light in the midfield department.

Loftus-Cheek could be England’s future midfield general as both Kalvin Phillips and Jordan Henderson lack that controlling factor. And the 26-year-old could partner Declan Rice in the middle of the pitch. Meanwhile, AC Milan have also shown interest in the Chelsea midfielder.

With his contract hovering towards the final year gradually, Chelsea need to make a decision or they will not get their desired value on the market. The Blues could save some serious money if they decide to take their association beyond 2024 as they are in serious need of bodies in the midfield.
