AC Milan are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek in January.

According to a report from Calciomercato, AC Milan are very keen on signing Ruben Loftus-Cheek. And the Rossoneri have made initial enquiries for the 26-year-old Chelsea midfielder.

Loftus-Cheek has established himself as an important player for Graham Potter this season, making seven starts in the Premier League thus far. The powerful central midfielder has been a regular starter for Chelsea especially because of the injury-enforced absence of N’Golo Kante.

It will be interesting to see if the Blues are willing to sanction his departure in the upcoming transfer window. Calciomercato claim that AC Milan are currently bewitched with the talented Chelsea midfielder. And the two clubs are planning to open talks when the transfer window reopens in January.

It will be interesting to see whether the Serie A champions can convince Chelsea to sell the player to them. Frederic Massara and Paolo Maldini have already made enquiries for the player.

Chelsea are already lacking in depth in the central midfield unit, and sanctioning Loftus-Cheek’s departure would be a foolish move. Instead, the Blues should look to bring in more reinforcements when the transfer window reopens. The west Londoners have shown interest in many midfielders, including Stanislav Lobotka.

Even if Chelsea had the resources to replace the 26-year-old, it will be difficult to find quality players midway through the season. The Blues must hold on to Loftus-Cheek until the end of the season at least.

Meanwhile, Loftus-Cheek is enjoying his football at Stamford Bridge and getting regular opportunities under new manager Graham Potter. It would be quite surprising if the player decided to leave anytime soon.

Milan and Chelsea have excellent relations, and the two clubs have previously negotiated the transfer of Fikayo Tomori. The young defender had to leave Stamford Bridge in search of regular first-team football and has been a massive hit at AC Milan.

It is fair to assume that Loftus-Cheek would have considered the exit as well if he was not getting regular opportunities at Chelsea. But Kante’s injury has transformed his fortunes, and he has a real opportunity to cement his place in the starting lineup for the foreseeable future.
