Tottenham sent scouts to watch Arsenal target Marcus Thuram in action as Antonio Conte looks to lock down a new forward.

According to 90min, Tottenham are keeping tabs on Marcus Thuram, with the north Londoners keen on signing a new forward. Spurs had scouts watching the French international, a target for Arsenal, during a recent Bundesliga game, with a view to approaching him over a free transfer in the summer.

Tottenham’s best-ever start to a season has begun to hit roadblocks. For most of the opening games, Antonio Conte’s men managed to stay close to the top two of Arsenal and Manchester City. But his side has shown complacency in recent fixtures and produced disappointing results.

After the defeats to Manchester United and Liverpool, Conte pointed out the project was in its infancy and called for patience from fans. The Tottenham manager also suggested the need for more players to complete the squad, as Spurs lack depth in certain areas of the team.

Tottenham are in the market for a creative player and a goalscorer. Son Heung-min and summer signing Richarlison have failed to make a mark. The latter has yet to score his first Premier League goal since the high-profile move from Everton.

Hence, Spurs will keep an eye out for any possible deals in January. But their emphasis would be on getting a long-term solution in the summer. Marcus Thuram has thus emerged on their list after Tottenham scouts watched the 25-year-old Arsenal target in action last week.

There were also scouts from Liverpool watching Thuram during Borussia Monchengladbach’s clash with Borussia Dortmund. Conte reportedly likes the forward and could make an approach in January with the view of a Bosman deal in the summer. But apart from Liverpool, Manchester United are also interested.

Thuram is also an Arsenal target, and the north London giants could battle it out for the French striker. Mikel Arteta is likely viewing him for January, as the Gunners are looking for players who could help push them in the title fight. While a free transfer in the summer could prove appealing, they could look for a cut-price deal in January.

The Gunners may prove a huge threat to Tottenham in their efforts to sign the Frenchman. Thuram may also look at where he might play regular football, and Arsenal could prove the right bet. However, one cannot underestimate Conte’s lure at Tottenham.

It will be an interesting battle between the north London giants for Thuram. Both Arsenal and Tottenham are good options for the 25-year-old to upgrade his career. But Sours may have a larger cause to bring the striker to north London. Manchester United and Liverpool are also in the mix. But for now, Spurs might come across as one of the serious contenders.
