Chelsea eyeing Yeremy Pino as Mason Mount replacement

Chelsea view Yeremy Pino as a possible replacement for Mason Mount if the England international does not sign a new contract.

According to Daily Telegraph, Chelsea have identified Yeremy Pino as a possible replacement for Mason Mount. The 23-year-old England international will enter the last 18 months of his deal in January, with contract talks stalling over a new agreement.

Mason Mount is one of the best academy products Chelsea have recently produced. The England international is among the top talents, such as Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah, and Conor Gallager.

Under their new ownership, Chelsea have shown aggression in building a new project. Despite spending heavily in the summer, the Blues continue to disappoint with their result on the pitch. It is still early days into Graham Potter’s reign, and Todd Boehly could afford plenty of time and few transfer windows to execute the plan.

One of Chelsea’s top priorities, when the season began was to extend the contracts of key academy stars. While the club has gotten agreements for Armando Broja and Reece James, Mason Mount seemed next in line for a lucrative new deal.

But after holding advanced talks with Mount and his representatives, there seems to be an impasse between the two parties. Hence, discussions have stalled, although Chelsea remain confident of extending the 23-year-old’s contract.

Mount will enter the last 18 months of his current deal in January, and Chelsea are already shortlisting replacements. One of them is 20-year-old Spanish attacker Yeremy Pino. The Villarreal star is a target for other Premier League sides, with the Blues becoming the latest side to register an interest.

Chelsea will be in the race, particularly if they cannot find an agreement with Mount. Yeremy is a big talent coming out of Spain, with the likes of Aston Villa and Arsenal keeping tabs on his situation. He could be an achievable summer target for those clubs.

Chelsea could find themselves better positioned to offer financial terms that could trump their competitors. Moreover, the lure of becoming part of a progressive project could also prove appealing from the player’s perspective.

Chelsea will aim to extend Mount’s deal as a priority and only target a replacement if needed. They might also consider a player like Yeremy as an addition, as the 20-year-old Spanish attacker is a growing talent in Europe.
