Manchester United have made a proposal to Memphis Depay over a move in January, but Barcelona’s stance remains unknown.
According to Spanish journalist Adrian Sanchez, Memphis Depay may have an offer from Manchester United to join them during January. Erik ten Hag is in the market for attacking reinforcements, as the club may consider re-signing the Barcelona forward.
Memphis Depay was in the thick of transfer speculation during the dying days of the summer window. Many rumours circulated about the Dutchman’s future. Some suggested he was considering a departure if Barcelona were willing to terminate his contract.
Other stories pointed towards a reported collapsed deal with a Premier League club or Juventus due to his excessive wage demands. In the end, Depay remained at Barcelona and has barely played all season.
The Barcelona attacker has featured only twice in La Liga this term, scoring one goal. He has since suffered a thigh injury, which has kept him out since the start of October. Depay is expected to recover in time to feature for the Netherlands at the World Cup in Qatar.

Once the grand tournament ends, Depay might return to Barcelona to continue playing in the shadows of Xavi Hernandez’s side or decide his future. The Dutchman is reportedly considering a departure in January, with plenty of clubs expected to be interested.
Sides like Juventus are showing admiration for he could be available on a free transfer or a cut-price move. Manchester United have reportedly submitted an offer for Depay, with the Premier League side considering re-signing the Dutchman.
Erik ten Hag is in the market for attacking reinforcements. In recent games, Manchester United have faced problems scoring goals. Additionally, there’s the glaring issue with the future of Cristiano Ronaldo beyond January, as the superstar continues to falter in the team.
While Depay might not be Ten Hag’s choice in the buildup process, he may be a short to medium-term option to help shore up the attack. The Barcelona attacker could also prove a stop-gap option if Manchester United could prise him away on an initial loan deal.
Barcelona may be open to dealing with Manchester United or other suitors if they can benefit financially. They might also consider dispensing off with Depay permanently than on a loan move. In hindsight, he could be a valuable signing for Ten Hag in the context of a top-four finish.
