Manchester City have reportedly joined Liverpool in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Youssoufa Moukoko next year.
According to a report from Football Insider, Youssoufa Moukoko is attracting attention from several European clubs because of his performances this season. And Manchester City have now joined Liverpool in the chase for the the 17-year-old wonderkid.
The player has recently signed up with England-based agency Unique Sports Management, which has fuelled further speculations regarding a Premier League move.
Moukoko is only 17 years old, and he is likely to develop further with coaching and experience. However, he has already established himself as a key player for Dortmund and has the potential to develop into a world-class attacker in the future. Manchester City recently signed Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, and it remains to be seen whether they can sign Moukoko from the Bundesliga club as well.
The Premier League champions can certainly use more depth in the attack and the 17-year-old wonderkid would be an exceptional long-term signing. However, he might struggle to get regular game time at the Etihad, and that could put any potential transfer in jeopardy.
A player of his ability will want game-time assurances before committing to any potential transfer, and he is likely to get more opportunities at Liverpool. The Reds need more quality and depth in the attacking department, especially after the departure of Sadio Mane.
Jurgen Klopp has an impressive track record of improving talented young players, and he could help Moukoko fulfil his potential. Meanwhile, the player is thought to be on the radar of clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona as well, in addition to Liverpool and Manchester City.
Ideally, Dortmund will not want to part ways with their prized asset anytime soon. But if they are to sell him in the coming months, they will hope that there is a bidding war for his services between the clubs involved.
The Bundesliga outfit will be looking to recoup as much as possible for the 17-year-old before letting him leave. Moukoko has four goals and six assists to his name in 18 appearances across all competitions. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool, Manchester City or any other club can land the talented striker in 2023.
