Chelsea could reportedly step up their efforts to sign Brighton & Hove Albion attacker Leandro Trossard at the end of the season.

According to a report from journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Leandro Trossard has been on Chelsea’s radar for a while. And the 27-year-old’s recent performances could prompt the Blues to make a move soon.

The Belgian international will be out of contract in the summer, and Brighton could thus look to sell him for a nominal price during the January transfer window. Chelsea could certainly use someone like Trossard. And it remains to be seen whether Graham Potter comes forward with a concrete bid for the player after setting sights on him.

Trossard can operate as an attacking midfielder and a wide forward. The 27-year-old’s versatility and quality can add a new dimension to the Chelsea attack.

With the likes of Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech faltering this season, Trossard would be a much-needed addition to the Chelsea squad. The Belgian international will add creativity and goals in the final third.  Furthermore, he knows Potter’s system as well. It is fair to assume that he could settle in quickly and make an immediate impact at Stamford Bridge.

The player has scored seven goals in 12 Premier League matches so far this season, including important strikes against Chelsea and Liverpool. The Belgian helped Brighton beat Chelsea and clinch a draw with Liverpool earlier this season. And Trossard has shown that he is capable of playing for a top club.

A move to Stamford Bridge would allow Trossard to play in the UEFA Champions League and that could be a tempting proposition for the player. Furthermore, the opportunity to reunite with his former manager is an added incentive. At 27, Trossard is at the peak of his powers and he could be an indispensable asset for Chelsea in the coming seasons.

A player of his quality should have no shortage of suitors. And it will be interesting to see if the other clubs decide to join the transfer chase if he is made available during the January transfer window. As for Brighton, they will be hoping for a bidding war so that they can recoup as much as possible for the Belgian international.
