Chelsea remains keen on Leandro Trossard, with Graham Potter readying an approach to bring one of his former players from Brighton.

According to Fichajes, Chelsea are in contention to sign Leandro Trossard from Brighton in January. The Belgian attacker’s contract with the Seagulls expires next summer, with the new Blues boss ready to take advantage of the situation.

Chelsea have had an indifferent summer, with multiple elements affecting the mood at Stamford Bridge. There was the issue of the new ownership and failure to acquire many of their top targets grabbing the headlines early on in the summer.

Those were followed by high-profile signings arriving at Stamford Bridge, including Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella, Wesley Fofana, Kalidou Koulibaly and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Despite those quality arrivals, Chelsea have yet to be able to hit the ground running, with their dismal form resulting in the dismissal of manager Thomas Tuchel.

Graham Potter took over from the German and joined Chelsea as their new manager. Since his arrival, speculation has been rife about the Englishman bringing in some of his former players from Brighton over to Stamford Bridge.

One of them is Leandro Trossard, with the Belgian attacker already in the last year of his contract at Brighton. There was speculation in the summer about the Premier League wide man’s departure from the Amex Stadium, but he remained at the club to begin the season well.

Trossard has two goals and two assists in six Premier League games this season, but his contractual situation may force Brighton’s hand in January. Potter will be keen to bring him to London with the English manager very comfortable around the Belgian.

Chelsea will look for a cut-price move in January, and if that fails, they could be readying a contract offer for Trossard to join on a free transfer in the summer. The report also runs a comment from the Premier League wide man, suggesting he could be open to a move.

Brossard said, “Our manager has gone to Chelsea, although the speculation about whether I have to follow him makes no sense. If the opportunity arises, I want to go.”

Whether that is also Chelsea’s intention will be clear in January, although Trossard will be a good fit for the Blues. As things stand, there are only rumours about a prospective move, but Chelsea could be in a strong position when the January window opens.
