Manchester United could go head-to-head with Chelsea in the battle to land Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong.
According to Football Transfers, Jeremie Frimpong is attracting severe attention as both Manchester United and Chelsea are vying for his signature. The 21-year-old right-back has been in fine form for Bayer Leverkusen and is mooted for a big move in near future.
The arrival of Erik ten Hag has shown a particular direction on how Manchester United should play, and it has been a quite whirlwind experience for all the players. Players like Diogo Dalot have improved a lot under the strict supervision of the Dutch manager. And ten Hag’s demand of getting the best out of them has pulled Manchester United out of their mess.
The Red Devils will undergo further transformation across the next few transfer windows, and a few players could feel the axe. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is one such player as the right-back has not been able to earn the trust of ten Hag, with Diogo Dalot being ever present on the right side of the Manchester United defence.
Manchester United are eager to offload Wan-Bissaka in January to fund a move for Frimpong. But the Red Devils could face difficulties as Chelsea are also biding their time to launch the offensive for the 21-year-old right-back.
Reece James has already been ruled out for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and his recovery has also been slow. Graham Potter has tried various combinations since taking over as the Chelsea boss. But the thrashing at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion has signalled the need for change.
Potter will be given funds to secure his target, and Frimpong could be one of them. The 21-year-old is still composed about his situation and is confident about making it to the World Cup squad.
He is yet to appear for the Dutch national team. But his chances of getting selected are getting brighter as there are very few prolific right-backs in his nation.
Frimpong has also been deployed in a much-advanced position this season, and his return has been fantastic as he has already netted five goals this term. The 21-year-old will be the subject of intense bidding as both Manchester United and Chelsea will dig deeper to get a deal done for the youngster.
