La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly considering a January move for 27-year-old Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar.

According to a report by Calciomercato News, Barcelona might look to launch the offensive for Milan Skriniar in the January transfer window. The 27-year-old defender is in the final year of his contract with Serie A giants Inter Milan. But the Blaugrana might face competition from Paris Saint-Germain for Skriniar.

Milan Skriniar has been a sensational signing for Inter Milan over the last half a decade. The Slovak is one of the best defenders in Serie A, going from strength to strength during his stint with the Nerazzurri. And he played a pivotal role when Inter clinched the league title two years ago.

The 27-year-old has turned out 230 times for Inter Milan, chipping in with eleven goals and four assists. But the Serie A giants are in a spot of bother over Skriniar’s long-term future, as he is in the final year of his contract. And with the two parties yet to reach an agreement, prospective suitors, including Barcelona, are smelling blood.

Barcelona signed two centre-backs in the summer transfer window, with Jules Kounde becoming a first-choice starter immediately. Andreas Christensen has also been a regular for the Blaugrana, with Eric Garcia also featuring prominently. So the interest in Skriniar is a tad-bit surprising.

But recent reports have claimed that the Catalan giants want to offload Gerard Pique as soon as possible. And Skriniar will become a viable target if Pique leaves Barcelona in the January transfer window. But with Inter Milan still eager to tie the 27-year-old down to a new contract, a mid-season transfer will be difficult to execute.

The Nerazzurri might theoretically have to bite the bullet if the two parties do not agree to a new deal by January. But with Inter Milan alive in all competitions, selling Skriniar to recoup little money can come back to bite the Serie A giants. Meanwhile, recent reports have also claimed that the Slovak does not want to join Barcelona.

Apart from Barcelona, PSG might also look to launch the offensive for the 27-year-old in January. It will be interesting to see how negotiations between Inter Milan and Skriniar progress in the coming weeks.
