La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are interested in Leandro Trossard and will rival Chelsea for the Belgian’s signature in January.

According to Daily Mirror, La Liga heavyweights Atletico Madrid will rival Chelsea in the chase for Leandro Trossard. The Belgian attacker is in the last year of his Brighton contract and is seen as a ‘bargain’ signing by the clubs. The Seagulls may find it tough to convince him to stay amid interest from European giants.

Leandro Trossard was heavily linked with a move away from Brighton with a year left on his deal last summer. But the Belgian attacker has somehow stayed put at the Amex Stadium. The winger was aware of the interest but may have wanted to play regularly until the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Trossard has started the season well, scoring five goals, including a hat-trick against Liverpool at Anfield. Significant interest continues to arrive from top Premier League clubs, including Chelsea and Arsenal. The west Londoners could see themselves going ahead in the queue due to the presence of former Brighton manager Graham Potter.

Potter has had a decent start to life at Chelsea but will look for solutions to strengthen the squad in January. Trossard is a player Potter seemingly trusts, and he could jump at the chance to sign him. The player’s recent comment suggested he could follow the Chelsea manager if the opportunity came.

However, Trossard wants to play regularly, which may prove to be the stumbling block for Chelsea due to the intense competition for places. Considering the Belgian’s preferred position, he will have Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount, and Christian Pulisic as competitors, and regular starts are not guaranteed.

While he will improve Chelsea’s overall quality, they face tense competition from rival clubs, including Arsenal and Atletico Madrid. The Spanish giants continue looking for financially viable targets, with the Belgian international being considered a ‘bargain’ option.

They could make an approach in January when Trossard is expected to depart. Brighton could look to sell him to a Premier League side in the hope of a high securing transfer fees. However, if the attacker signs an agreement, the Seagulls can do nothing about it.

Trossard also knows the importance of having a good World Cup, as interest would increase in the 27-year-old. He remains in good form now, and naturally, clubs like Atletico Madrid or Chelsea are keen, making it attractive enough for the Belgian to choose in January.
