Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly plotting a loan move for Callum Hudson-Odoi, who could be allowed to leave Chelsea in this window.

According to Mike McGrath of Daily Telegraph, Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen are prepared to offer Callum Hudson-Odoi an exit route out of Chelsea as they prepare a loan move for the 21-year-old attacker.

Callum Hudson-Odoi’s Chelsea career is spiralling into irrelevance, as the young winger has not developed as well as he would have wanted. Many saw the 21-year-old as the future of English football, but in recent seasons, the attacker has endured a frustrating time at the club level.

Moreover, his refusal to represent the England Under-21 side may have damaged his reputation as far as national team manager Gareth Southgate is concerned. In addition, Thomas Tuchel seems to have lost faith in Hudson-Odoi’s ability, demonstrated by his inconsistent selection of the attacker last season.

Hudson-Odoi has found himself on the bench so far this season, and his long term-future may not belong at Chelsea. The club’s relentless pursuit of Everton attacker Anthony Gordon could spell the end for the Blues winger.

Hudson-Odoi does not have a shortage of interest from clubs across England and Germany. The winger’s move away from Chelsea looks likely, although his new destination is relatively unknown.

Manchester United were linked with a move for Hudson-Odoi a few days ago, but it seems the Red Devils are focused on bringing Antony or Cody Gakpo from the Eredivisie instead. Hudson-Odoi will look to evaluate the many offers he might already have on the table, including a prospective move to Germany.

A few years ago, Bayern Munich vigorously pursued the winger, who eventually signed a new deal with Chelsea. The new contract offered Hudson-Odoi wages over £100,000 per week, which could prove to be a stumbling block when it comes to securing a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.

Bayer Leverkusen have expressed an interest in taking the Chelsea attacker, as they are keen on adding to their attacking unit. Moving to the Bundesliga could help Hudson-Odoi regain some form and probably realise his true potential.

Leverkusen are keen on a loan move and Chelsea are open to the same. There could be discussions between the clubs regarding the finances involved, as the Bundesliga outfit may not be in a position to pay his wages in full. Chelsea could then be asked to cover a significant portion of his wages, or Hudson-Odoi comes to a compromise.

Staying at Chelsea, considering they might bring in Gordon or another attacker before the transfer deadline, undoubtedly is a problem for the winger. He will have far less playing time at the Bridge, whereas a loan move would benefit him significantly, irrespective of whether that is at Bayer Leverkusen or someplace else.
