La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly weighing up the prospect of re-signing 24-year-old Spanish international Dani Olmo this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Dani Olmo remains firmly on the radar of FC Barcelona over a possible move in the ongoing transfer window. The Catalan giants are considering re-signing the Spanish international, with Xavi Hernandez requesting his acquisition this summer.

Dani Olmo spent most of his formative years with Barcelona before taking the brave decision of joining Dinamo Zagreb to pursue his professional career. The Spaniard might have felt vindicated as he went from strength to strength at the Croatian club before moving to RB Leipzig in January 2020.

The 24-year-old has made significant progress in the last two and a half years, amassing 17 goals and 21 assists in 95 appearances thus far. And Olmo has invariably captured the attention of several high-profile clubs in Europe, with Barcelona closely monitoring his situation at the Red Bull Arena.

Barcelona attempted to re-sign Olmo late in the summer transfer window of 2021, but they ran out of time to secure his services. The Catalan giants have continued to track his progress in the last 12 months and even thought about pursuing him in January before Mateu Alemany ruled out approaching the Spanish international.

Barcelona and Olmo remain in contact over a possible summer move. And with Frenkie de Jong facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou, the 24-year-old might be the ideal candidate to replace the Dutch midfielder, considering Bernardo Silva looks likely to remain at Manchester City beyond the summer transfer window.

While recent reports claimed that Barcelona might push the move for Olmo forward by another year, Xavi Hernandez has requested his acquisition this summer. The Catalan giants are thus lining up an offer to snap up the Spanish international in the coming weeks. But the asking price could be a stumbling block for Barcelona.

RB Leipzig will likely demand a sizable transfer fee to part ways with the 24-year-old, who still has two years remaining on his contract with the Bundesliga outfit. But with Olmo previously showing the desire to rejoin Barcelona, it will be interesting to see if he pushes to return to Camp Nou.
