Serie A new boys Monza are reportedly in the pole position to secure the services of Barcelona defender Oscar Minguza this summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication MARCA, Oscar Mingueza looks likely to embark on an adventure in Serie A in the 2022/23 season, with AC Monza leading the race to sign him from FC Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The 23-year-old could thus be the latest addition to the ambitious project at the Italian club.

Oscar Mingueza has been a handy squad player for Barcelona since making his first-team debut at Camp Nou nearly two years ago. While the Spaniard has never been a first-choice defender for the Blaugrana, he has been an asset due to his ability to play across the defensive line. At the same time, Mingueza has also made his debut for his nation.

The 23-year-old has turned out 66 times for Barcelona while chipping in with two goals and five assists. But Mingueza’s time at Camp Nou seems to be up, with Barcelona ready to part ways with him in the summer transfer window. And his next destination seems to be AC Monza.

Monza will embark on a campaign in Serie A for the first time in their history in 2022/23 after securing promotion via the playoffs. Before they went up to the top flight, no Italian team had played more Serie B seasons (40) without playing in Serie A than the Biancorossi.

Silvio Berlusconi is now keen on making Monza a mainstay in Serie A, with the former AC Milan owner overseeing an ambitious project at Stadio Brianteo. To that end, Stefano Sensi has already joined Monza, who will reportedly look to launch audacious moves for Paulo Dybala and Mauro Icardi.

One of the more low-key yet efficient signings for Monza could be Oscar Mingueza. With two years of experience in La Liga, the Barcelona defender has emerged as a viable target for the Biancorossi. And according to MARCA, the Serie A new boys are the favourites to land the 23-year-old, with the Blaugrana happy to offload him this summer.

Mingueza’s agent, Jose Maria Orobitg, and Barcelona are negotiating the sale of the Spaniard, with the Catalan demanding between €5 million and €8 million for him. Girona also wanted to sign Mingueza from Barcelona, but the newly-promoted La Liga cannot afford him. But Monza could land Mingueza in a deal that satisfies Barcelona’s demands.
