Real Madrid and Real Sociedad are reportedly in advanced talks over a possible move for 21-year-old Japanese forward Takefusa Kubo this summer.

According to a report by Spanish journalist Anton Meana on El Larguero, Real Madrid and Real Sociedad have made progress in their negotiations over a move for Takefusa Kubo in the summer transfer window. But the two clubs have reached an impasse, as the Merengues want to loan out the 21-year-old, while the Basque giants wish to sign him permanently.

Takefusa Kubo has endured a frustrating spell at Real Madrid as he has not been able to establish a foothold in the first-team setup at the Santiago Bernabeu since arriving from FC Tokyo nearly three years ago. The Japanese international was surrounded by hype and excitement, but he has had to suffice with continuing his progress on loan at other La Liga clubs due to the unavailability of a non-EU spot in the squad.

The 21-year-old has had his most fruitful stints with RCD Mallorca, and he is now on the verge of joining another La Liga club. With Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo Goes in the waiting list to receive a Spanish passport, Real Madrid cannot add another non-EU player to the first-team squad. And Real Sociedad will look to hand Kubo a lifeline.

Imanol Alguacil is light on quality when it comes to his wide-attacking options, with Mikel Oyarzabal nursing a long-term injury and Adnan Januzaj departing from the Reale Arena as a free agent. In addition, Alguacil will not be able to call upon the services of Portu in the 2022/23 season, prompting Real Sociedad to attempt a summer move for Kubo.

But negotiations between Real Madrid and Real Sociedad did not get off to the best start, with Los Blancos rejecting the Basque club’s offer for the Japanese forward. However, talks between the two clubs have resumed again this week, and they are hoping to reach an agreement over a summer move quickly.

Kubo wants to start pre-season training at his new club instead of beginning his campaign at Real Madrid and then restarting again at the next destination. And negotiations between Real Madrid and Real Sociedad have advanced in the last few days, according to Anton Meana. However, the two clubs are at an impasse.

La Real would prefer to sign Kubo permanently, but the Merengues want to either loan him out or sell him with a buyback clause. But it is a case of once bitten, twice shy for Real Sociedad, who suffered after enjoying the services of Martin Odegaard, meaning they want to avoid another such scenario with another Real Madrid player.
