Chelsea tracking Rafael Leao

Premier League heavyweights Chelsea are reportedly closely monitoring the situation of Rafael Leao, a target for Real Madrid and Manchester City.

According to a report by 90 min, Rafael Leao is the subject of interest from Chelsea over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The AC Milan forward is also a target for Real Madrid and Manchester City, with the Rossoneri attempting to tie him down to a new contract.

Rafael Leao has established himself as one of the most highly sought-after players in the market following a brilliant campaign with AC Milan. The 22-year-old inspired the Rossoneri to their first Serie A title in 11 years, amassing 11 goals and ten assists in 34 league outings.

At the same time, the Portuguese international also took the Most Valuable Player award after playing a leading role in the Serie A title triumph. Leao’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, with some of the most high profile clubs in Europe, including Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid, setting their sights on him.

The Blues are the latest suitors for Leao’s signature, which is understandable, considering Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, and Christian Pulisic face uncertain futures at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea will thus have to invest in a wide-attacker this summer, with Leao a viable target.

As for Manchester City, the Premier League champions have recently established contact with the 22-year-old to talk about a possible summer move. Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus have their futures up in the air and could depart from the Etihad ahead of the 2022/23 season. And Leao is an option worth considering for Manchester City.

Meanwhile, the interest from Real Madrid stems from their inability to secure the services of Kylian Mbappe in a Bosman move. With Gareth Bale set to depart from the Santiago Bernabeu as a free agent, a spot in the attacking unit will be vacant. And Leao could be the ideal replacement for the Welshman, with Real Madrid prepared to ramp up his pursuit.

Chelsea’s emergence spices things up, but AC Milan’s readiness to triple Leao’s wages complicates matters for his prospective suitors. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea, Manchester City or Real Madrid will manage to prise the Portuguese international away from San Siro this summer.
