Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City vying for Mason Mount

Real Madrid, Manchester United and Manchester City are reportedly keen on signing Mason Mount from Chelsea in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Mason Mount is a hot property in the market heading into the summer transfer window. The Chelsea talisman has popped up on the radars of European bigwigs like Real Madrid, Manchester United and Manchester City.

Mason Mount has been one of the proponents of ending Chelsea’s infamous image of loaning out every academy graduate after they reach a certain stage of their respective careers. The English international took no time to establish himself as a pivotal figure for the Blues after Frank Lampard promoted him at the onset of the 2019/20 season.

Nearly three years later, the 23-year-old has earned the status of being the Chelsea talisman and has been their leading light in a rollercoaster of a season. Mount has amassed 12 goals and 15 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions. But amid uncertainties surrounding Chelsea, several high profile clubs, including Real Madrid, Manchester United and Manchester City, have set their sights on Mount.

The interest from Real Madrid stems from the advancing years of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. Los Blancos’ two creative supremos are approaching the final phases of their respective careers and will soon start getting phased out as regulars. Mount is thus a viable target for Real Madrid, with the 23-year-old being a potential long-term successor to Modric.

As for Manchester United, Paul Pogba’s impending exit as a free agent has sent the Red Devils scrambling for a long-term replacement. Mount has thus emerged as an option worth exploring for Manchester United, with the Chelsea talisman potentially being an upgrade on Pogba.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s interest in Mount is hardly surprising, considering Bernardo Silva has been heavily linked with a potential summer exit. The Portuguese international has emerged as a target for Real Madrid, and his departure will prompt Manchester City to seek a long-term replacement.

Apart from Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Manchester City, Mount is also a target for Barcelona. However, Manchester United and Manchester City might face an uphill task convincing Chelsea to part with the 23-year-old. Chelsea will also likely look to keep hold of Mount irrespective of the identity of the suitor, and it will be interesting to see how this transfer saga transpires.
