Reliable journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft has claimed that Erling Haaland, a target for Real Madrid, does not have an agreement with Manchester City yet.

According to former Norwegian footballer turned journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft, Erling Haaland does not have a deal in place to join either Real Madrid or Manchester City, contrary to claims in recent reports across Europe. Real Madrid and Manchester City are the favourites to snap the prodigious striker from Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window.

Erling Haaland has the world at his feet despite being only 21 years old after taking the Bundesliga by storm in the last two years. The Norwegian international took no time to establish a foothold at Borussia Dortmund upon arriving from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020. And despite struggling with injuries this term, he has continued to perform at a high level.

Haaland has an impressive tally of 25 goals and eight assists in 26 appearances thus far this season. And Borussia Dortmund will have an uphill task in keeping the youngster onboard at the Signal Iduna Park beyond the summer transfer window, with Real Madrid and Manchester City vying for his signature.

As per Jan Aage Fjortoft, Real Madrid and Manchester City are the two favourites to prise Haaland away from Borussia Dortmund. And with the player’s release clause set to come into effect in the summer transfer window, signing him will be a rather straightforward task, provided the personal terms are out of the way.

Recent reports have claimed that Haaland has already reached an agreement with Manchester City over a £500,000-a-week deal. The Norwegian striker could be the long-sought Sergio Aguero successor at the Etihad, with the player capable of giving Manchester City as many years at the top as the Argentine legend.

On the other hand, Real Madrid will look to bring Haaland in as the long-term replacement for Karim Benzema. While the Frenchman is in the form of his life, he is well into his thirties, meaning Real Madrid must lay down a succession plan for him. Haaland is thus a viable target for Los Blancos, who are pulling out all the stops to land him.

But Jan Aage Fjortoft has claimed that Haaland does not have a deal in place to join either Real Madrid or Manchester City yet, contrary to claims in recent reports. So with the race to sign the 21-year-old still wide open, it will be interesting to see which way the scales tip in the coming weeks and months.
