La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are reportedly in advanced talks to sign Aurelien Tchouameni, a target for Chelsea, with AS Monaco asking for €65 million.

According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Aurelien Tchouameni could be closing in on joining Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. The Merengues are in advanced talks to sign the €65 million-rated AS Monaco midfielder, with Chelsea also keen on signing him.

Aurelien Tchouameni has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Ligue 1 since joining AS Monaco from Bordeaux in January 2020. The young French international has become a pivotal figure for club and country in this period, having established a foothold in Les Bleus’ setup in the past year.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign, featuring 45 times across all competitions for AS Monaco while chipping in with three goals and two assists. Tchouameni’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid and Chelsea, setting their sights on him.

The interest from Real Madrid stems from the rampant uncertainties surrounding the futures of Dani Ceballos and Isco. At the same time, the advancing ages of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are prompting Real Madrid to invest in a midfielder who can be a long-term solution in the middle of the park.

Tchouameni is thus a viable target for Real Madrid, with the player keen on joining them in the summer transfer window. But Los Blancos will need to fend off stiff competition from Chelsea to land the 22-year-old French international, especially if the Blues’ ownership situation gets resolved.

Chelsea will need to invest in a holding midfielder soon if the situation permits, with Jorginho heavily linked with a possible return to Serie A. And with N’Golo Kante approaching the final phase of his career, the need to bolster midfield has accentuated for Real Madrid, making Tchouameni a viable target.

According to recent reports, Real Madrid and Chelsea are the front-runners to sign Tchouameni, valued at around €65 million by AS Monaco. But the Merengues seem to be leading the race to land the youngster, as they are in advanced talks to secure his services.

It will be interesting to see if the €65 million price tag poses a problem for Real Madrid, especially with Erling Haaland an important target for Los Blancos. And Chelsea’s ownership situation will also be another important factor worth keeping an eye on as this transfer saga continues to evolve.
