Chelsea and Real Madrid are reportedly leading the race to sign Aurelien Tchouameni, a target for PSG, valued at €60 million by AS Monaco.

According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Chelsea and Real Madrid are the front-runners in the race to sign Aurelien Tchouameni in the summer transfer window. The French international, valued at around €60 million by AS Monaco, is also a target for Paris Saint-Germain.

Aurelien Tchouameni has become one of the most highly sought-after midfielders in Europe since joining AS Monaco from Bordeaux in January 2020. In just two years, the 22-year-old has come leaps and bounds, establishing himself as a pivotal figure for the Ligue 1 outfit while also growing in stature within the French national side.

Tchouameni has enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign, turning out 44 times for AS Monaco across all competitions thus far. But the principality club could be set to lose the youngster’s services in the summer transfer window, with several European bigwigs, including Real Madrid, Chelsea, and PSG, setting their sights on him.

The interest from Real Madrid stems from the advancing years of their first-choice central midfield trifecta. And with Casemiro having no viable backup option for him, Tchouameni is a player worth considering for Real Madrid. Recent reports claimed that the Merengues tried to sign the 22-year-old by offering Luka Jovic to AS Monaco in a player-plus-cash deal, which the Ligue 1 club did not accept.

As for Chelsea, the Blues hold a long-standing interest in Tchouameni and have been in contact with the player. Chelsea’s pursuit might be on hold due to the off-field issues surrounding Roman Abramovich. But he is a viable long-term target, considering Jorginho continues to flirt with a return to Serie A while N’Golo Kante has emerged on Real Madrid’s radar.

Meanwhile, PSG could be looking at Tchouameni as a much-needed midfield reinforcement, with the department being their Achilles Heel.PSG must sign a top-class midfielder, as Georginio Wijnaldum, Leandro Paredes, and Ander Herrera have been sub-par. Monaco’s €60 million price tag will unlikely deter Les Parisiens, Chelsea, or Real Madrid.

But Chelsea and Real Madrid are leading the race to sign Tchouameni ahead of PSG, with the player preferring to join the two other clubs instead of the French heavyweights. With several factors determining the final result, it will be interesting to see how the pendulum swings in the €60 million chase of the 22-year-old.
