La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly weighing up the prospect of signing Timo Werner from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Timo Werner is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants are closely monitoring the situation at Chelsea amid the sanctions imposed on Roman Abramovich.

Timo Werner joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window of 2020 following a fantastic 2019/20 season in the Bundesliga. But the German international has struggled to carry over his form to the Premier League.

The 26-year-old’s poor form has invariably affected his stature at Chelsea, where he is now a bit-part player. And his tally of seven goals and four assists in 26 appearances across all competitions this season does leave a lot to be desired. With his career headed nowhere, Werner could leave Chelsea in the summer transfer window, with Barcelona emerging as a possible destination.

Barcelona will enter the market for a striker in the summer transfer window, as Martin Braithwaite will depart Camp Nou. At the same time, Luuk de Jong will return to Sevilla at the end of his loan stint with Barcelona, who might not sign the veteran Dutch striker permanently ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Erling Haaland is Barcelona’s priority target heading into the summer transfer window. But the Borussia Dortmund striker is the hottest property in the market, with Real Madrid and Manchester City closer than Barcelona in the race to sign him. That is why the Catalan giants are keeping their options open, with several strikers, including Werner, emerging on their radar.

Apart from the struggling German forward, Chelsea teammate Romelu Lukaku, Patrik Schick and Rafael Leao are also on Barcelona’s radar. But Werner or Lukaku could be easy prey for Barcelona amid the latest sanctions imposed on Roman Abramovich.

The Catalan giants are closely monitoring the situation at Chelsea and could take their chance to poach Werner or Lukaku away from Stamford Bridge. While the German international has not been at his best at Chelsea, joining Barcelona could give him a new lease on his career, although Borussia Dortmund could also be in the running to sign him.
