According to a report by French outlet Foot Mercato, Youri Tielemans dreams of joining Real Madrid when he leaves Leicester City. The development comes as a major blow for his other suitors, including Barcelona and Manchester City.
Youri Tielemans has established himself as one of the best playmakers in the Premier League since joining Leicester City from AS Monaco. The Foxes initially signed the Belgian international on loan in January 2019 before completing his permanent transfer the following summer.
To date, the 24-year-old has made 141 appearances for Leicester City, chipping in with 24 goals and 22 assists in the process. But Tielemans is set to depart the King Power Stadium in the summer transfer window to seek a new challenge. Such a situation has captured the attention of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City.
The interest from Real Madrid stems from the rampant uncertainties surrounding the futures of Dani Ceballos and Isco. The Spanish duo will likely depart the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer transfer window, opening up a spot for Tielemans to take up before eventually succeeding the ageing Luka Modric.
As for Barcelona, the Blaugrana will need to enter the market for a midfielder in the summer, as veteran midfielder Sergio Busquets is in the twilight of his glittering career. And with Barcelona likely to sell Riqui Puig ahead of the 2022/23 season, Tielemans could initially replace the Spaniard before becoming Frenkie de Jong and Pedri’s long-term midfield partner.
Recent reports have also painted Manchester City as the possible front-runners in the race to sign Tielemans. Despite Bernardo Silva’s resurgence this season, the Portuguese international could exit the Etihad in the summer, with Real Madrid coincidentally linked with him. If Silva leaves, Tielemans could be a like-for-like replacement at Manchester City.
