Chelsea have completed the capture of West Bromwich Albion’s youth sensation Leo Cardoso, regarded as one of the most promising young talents in Europe.

The Secret Scout has posted a tweet confirming Chelsea’s capture of Leo Cardoso. The 15-year-old has been brought in from the West Bromwich Albion academy as part of the club’s plans to further enhance its youth department. The wonderkid has joined the Chelsea youth squad, led by former England international Joe Cole.

Despite positive results on the pitch, Chelsea are in turmoil right now. They are set to lose their owner Roman Abramovich after the Russian oligarch opted to sell the club amid growing pressure from politicians due to his ties with Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Abramovich’s departure could cause a myriad of problems for Chelsea, not only financially but also when it comes to building an identity going forward. That has, nevertheless, failed to stop the Blues from continuing on their ventures in the market, and it appears they have already bagged a talented starlet in the form of Leo Cardoso.

A playmaker by trade, Cardoso had been a part of the West Bromwich youth academy since 2019, at the age of just 12. Since then, the teenage wonderkid has made a huge impression with his ability on the ball, coupled with his technical prowess and dynamism in the final third.

Cardoso is quite versatile as well and is capable of playing a wider role, if necessary. It makes him an explosive attacker who can prove to be an excellent addition to the Chelsea youth setup.

The 15-year-old was a former English youth international, but it appears he has switched his allegiances to the Portuguese side. He currently represents the Portugal Under-16 side, having made his debut in early February. Given the promise he has shown at the youth level, it won’t be surprising to see the player getting promoted to the reserve side in the coming years.

After the capture of Cardoso meanwhile, Chelsea are now expected to shift their attention towards Jamaldeen Jimoh. The 15-year-old is considered as one of the best young midfielders in the country, and even though the Blues are currently in pole position to sign the youngster, there could be serious competition from fellow giants Manchester City.
