Wes Brown claims Michael Carrick wants Marcus Rashford return at Manchester United

Wes Brown claimed that Michael Carrick would want to give Marcus Rashford a way back into the Manchester United team.

Marcus Rashford’s future remains uncertain after Barcelona rejected the £26 million buy option in their loan deal, prompting speculation that manager Michael Carrick could offer the winger a lifeline at Manchester United. Former defender Wes Brown has now claimed that Carrick would want to reintegrate Rashford into the squad, signalling a potential path forward after the troubled tenure of Ruben Amorim.

Rashford performed admirably for Hansi Flick’s Barcelona side, scoring or assisting 28 times across all competitions last season. However, the Spanish club opted to sign England winger Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United instead, diminishing Rashford’s chances of a permanent move to the Catalan giants, despite reported suggestions they retain interest.

As he returns to Manchester United, there have been suggestions in reports that Michael Carrick could offer him a lifeline. Whether that materialises remains to be seen, but at present there is no major interest in the winger, as the ongoing World Cup may limit transfer activity.

Wes Bwoen makes Marcus Rashford claim

Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has made a public claim in comments published on TeamTalk, stating that Carrick would love to keep hold of Rashford and reintegrate him into the squad.

Brown said: “Yeah, I mean, listen, all the problems that were there were all under [Ruben] Amorim. Michael would love to have him back, given all the experience and extra quality he brings.

“Whether they can get that sorted out or not, whether all parties are comfortable with it, though, we’ll just have to see… But I wish we knew what was said behind closed doors.”

Brown’s public backing suggests Carrick views Rashford’s successful loan spell as evidence of redemption rather than past discord. Brown added that Rashford, a youth graduate who has done much for Manchester United, deserved another chance.

“He’s played some wonderful games for United, and it was obviously a shame to see what happened, and then he moved to different clubs on loan.

“But he’s still under contract at United, and it’ll be great to see him in that red shirt again. I believe Michael and his staff will sort it out, so he can.”

However, Manchester United could still field interest from the market. Previous reports have linked Tottenham with a move, and as Fabrizio Romano reports, Barcelona are now closing in on Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi, which may finally end hopes of bringing Rashford to the Nou Camp.
