Chelsea signed Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal during the summer transfer window, but he has not been able to live up to the expectations.

Nicolas Jackson was expected to solve Chelsea’s goalscoring problems. But he has found the back of the net just three times in all competitions this season. The Blues struggled to score goals consistently last season, and they needed to bring in a prolific striker.

Jackson is clearly a decent player, but a club of Chelsea’s stature needs to do better, especially if they want to win major trophies. It will be interesting to see if Mauricio Pochettino decides to dip into the transfer market for a striker in January.

Chelsea are clearly lacking in goals right now. The injury to Christopher Nkunku has not helped either. Now, former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch has opined (h/t The Sun) that the 22-year-old Senegalese striker is not good enough to lead the line for a club like Chelsea and that they should aim for better quality players.

The pundit told TNT Sports 2 (via The Sun), “Nicolas Jackson, let’s be honest, is not going to be the answer long-term. He does a lot of great work outside the box, but is he going to get you 15-20 goals? I don’t think so.”

Chelsea have been linked with players like Victor Osimhen recently, and it will be interesting to see if they decide to make a move for the Nigerian international. Osimhen is a world-class striker who helped Napoli win the league title last season with 31 goals across all competitions.

Chelsea need players who can transform them into genuine title contenders. Jackson could still be a very useful squad player for the Blues. But he is simply not good enough to start every week for a team hoping to win major titles.

Chelsea have been active in the transfer market since the change of ownership, and they should look to bring in a reliable striker in the coming months. Signing a quality goalscorer in January could help them turn their season around and finish in the top four. They missed out on UEFA Champions League qualification last season, and they will not want to be in a similar situation once again.
