Moises Caicedo was linked with a move to Liverpool during the summer transfer window but he ended up joining Chelsea.

The agent of Moises Caicedo has opened up on the transfer saga of his client during this summer transfer window and explained the reasons behind his move to Chelsea. In an interview via Football Transfers, his agent revealed that the player’s camp had an agreement with Chelsea who were long-term admirers of the player.

However, Liverpool came in with a lucrative offer to sign the player late on in the window, and it was certainly an enticing prospect for the player. However, they decided to wait for Chelsea to show up with a similar offer because of the promise they had made to the West London club.

Eventually, Chelsea decided to match the asking price for the midfielder, and Caicedo and his representatives decided to honour their word and move to Chelsea. There have been suggestions that Caicedo’s move to Stamford Bridge is motivated by money.

But the player’s agent has now confirmed that the player only wanted to honour his promise to Chelsea and he was not motivated by financial gains.

“It’s true he [Jurgen Klopp] talked to Moises and it’s an honour such an important one talked to him, expressing him his desire for Moises to join Liverpool, but Moises decided that he wanted Chelsea long ago, before Liverpool came in the last days.”

“It’s a medium to long-term project, not at short one at all, so he is conscious of it and he wants to live all the big moments Chelsea has lived in its history from inside – he has been always a Chelsea fan.”

“Obviously, it was, when a giant like Liverpool wants you, it’s always an option, but because of the respect we have with Chelsea, and the support they were showing us since January without stopping for a day, we thought they had to have the chance for a very limited time to match Liverpool’s offer to Brighton and they did it even they went over.”

“Just the loyalty – the values of somebody supporting you in the worst moments he suffered with all this movement from Brighton, that was the main reason to stay strong with Chelsea and to choose them.”

Caicedo has had a difficult start to life at Stamford Bridge so far, and his performances have been rather underwhelming. Meanwhile, Chelsea have struggled as a side as well, and they find themselves 11th in the table, with just two wins from seven league matches.

Liverpool, on the other hand, are fourth in the league table, just two points adrift of league leaders Manchester City. It remains to be seen whether Caicedo can bounce back strongly and prove his worth at his new club. The Blues paid a British transfer record sum for the Ecuadorian midfielder, and they will hope that he can be the ideal long-term replacement for club legend N’Golo Kante.

Meanwhile, Liverpool failed to sign a quality defensive midfielder during the summer transfer window, and it remains to be seen whether they can bring in a quality alternative in the upcoming windows.
