Manuel Sierra reveals why his client Moises Caicedo ended up choosing Chelsea despite an offer from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Moises Caicedo was the talk of the town throughout the transfer window. The 21-year-old was subject to a lot of interest from some of the biggest clubs in the Premier League. Eventually, Chelsea and Liverpool squared up against each other for his services and the Blues managed to win the race for his services.

Caicedo came into the limelight during the FIFA World Cup last year. He was sensational in the global event. His consistent performances for Brighton along with his heroics at the World Cup attracted a lot of attention.

Quite a few clubs wanted to sign him in January this year. But, Brighton didn’t want to lose out on their star mid-season. They ended up keeping him at the club and even penned down a new deal with the player. While Caicedo penned down a new deal, he was promised that if there was a significant offer for his services Brighton wouldn’t stand in his way.

Throughout the summer Chelsea were in talks with the Seagulls over a potential transfer. The player had already agreed to join the Blues but the transfer fee was still a matter of concern. While the talks were still on, Liverpool made a surprise entry and managed to agree on a deal worth £111 million with Brighton.

Caicedo had the opportunity to join the Reds but he declined. He decided to wait for the Blues and they finally ended up signing him. Finally, his agent Manuel Sierra has revealed the reason behind the 21-year-old choosing Chelsea over Liverpool.

Manuel Sierra said via StudioFutbol: Chelsea was there to support us at all times, they told us that they were going to get us out of Brighton, that they would do everything possible. The whole operation became quite complicated, because Brighton wanted a lot of money,”

Liverpool came in, we didn’t expect that. They appeared suddenly, they made things difficult; but Chelsea supported the cause to finish in blue. We ask for time for the offer to be equalled and surpassed. It took days, but it came together.”

Sierra revealed that the Blues had promised them that they would do everything in their power to get him out of Brighton. They had assured him that they wouldn’t give up on him and would sign him at all costs. As a result, when Liverpool came in for his services, they decided to wait.

The player along with his entourage asked Brighton for time. They believed Chelsea would equal or surpass the offer submitted by the Merseyside club. Eventually, the London club managed to sign the 21-year-old for a fee of £115 million.
