Manchester City urged to sign Tammy Abraham instead of Harry Kane

Trevor Sinclair has urged Manchester City to drop interest in Harry Kane and instead eye a summer swoop for Tammy Abraham.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Trevor Sinclair has offered his thoughts on Manchester City’s pursuit of Harry Kane. The former footballer is not overly keen on spending a fortune on the Tottenham Hotspur superstar and has suggested a potential alternative in the form of Tammy Abraham.

Sinclair’s comments come just a few days after a bombshell report that suggested Manchester City’s potential bid of £160 million for Kane. However, it appears Spurs are determined to keep hold of their star players, despite recently bringing in Bryan Gil this summer.

It has forced Manchester City to look for alternatives in the market as the club continues its quest to sign a replacement for Sergio Aguero. They have been linked with a move for Erling Haaland, but the Borussia Dortmund forward commands hefty price-tag rules pretty much every club out of contention.

Sinclair, though, believes Manchester City must set their sights on Tammy Abraham if they are to replace Aguero next season. Asked if he would take Abraham over Kane at City, the 48-year-old replied on Monday’s talkSPORT Breakfast, “I would, yeah.”

There is no secret that the Chelsea forward is available on the market. He notably made only three starts under Thomas Tuchel last season, with the German tactician deeming him surplus to the requirements. However, Sinclair appears to rate the Englishman, suggesting he would be a great fit at the Etihad.

“He’s a young enough player, and with Pep Guardiola’s coaching ability and the teammates around him… he’s a top player. The season he had at Aston Villa, and then he went back to Chelsea and did very well. He’s a handful, his pace, he looks to stretch the lines, he’s a finisher,” said the former Manchester City star.

Sinclair has also slammed the club’s decision to go all out in pursuit of Kane. “I just don’t want to see the club going out there and spending that ridiculous amount of money to bring one player in. That just kills it, then. You might as well pack up,” he said when asked about the Citizens’ reported £160 million bid.

However, the football pundit did iterate that Abraham is unlikely to move to City, citing West Ham as an ideal destination.

“I would like to see Tammy at the club. I don’t think it’s going to happen because I don’t think Manchester City have shown any kind of interest in him. But for me, he’s a top player.”

“I’d love to see him at West Ham, he’d fit in really well. [Michail] Antonio needs that rest, he can’t play week in, week out. His age and what he brings to the table, if he puts it all out there one week and then Tammy comes in and plays the next week, that could be a formidable partnership,” he added.

Tammy Abraham has indeed been linked with a move to West Ham this summer, but the Hammers are set to face stiff competition, with Arsenal also joining the case this month.
