Jose Enrique believes Mason Mount could be a good addition for Liverpool amid rumours of stalled contract talks with Chelsea.

Jose Enrique is in the news again, with the former Liverpool defender suggesting the club sign Mason Mount. The Chelsea star has come into the spotlight this season after some below-par performances for his club, which has led to many questions directed at his pedigree.

There’s also the issue of a reported stalling in contract talks with Chelsea as Mount enters the final 18 months of his deal. The 23-year-old is rated within the club’s corridors. Hence it’s an alarming situation for the Blues.

Mount is an established England international and a key member of his club. Chelsea reportedly prioritises a new deal for Mount, but negotiations might have hit a roadblock. As soon as the news broke out in the Telegraph a few days ago, speculation about his long-term future is rife.

There are also reports Chelsea might be looking at players as a potential replacement for Mount. The fans and the club will hope it will not come to that, and Mount will sign a new deal to prolong his career at the club.

Until he signs on the dotted line, transfer speculation could continue. Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique quickly jumped on the bandwagon to suggest the Reds should sign Mount. His comment was taken into context by Caught Offside via his Instagram, where the ex-defender believes he could be a fantastic signing.

Enrique said, “You believe it will be a good addition to the squad in the summer? Price with 1 year left it shouldn’t be too high either.”

It’s rather difficult to see a star player from Chelsea at this age moving to Liverpool. While Jurgen Klopp’s side could do with a player of Mount’s abilities, they might not ponder a move in January.

Things could change in the summer, as Mount’s choices could be much clearer. Liverpool could become a choice if the club is positioned to challenge trophies when the time comes.

Mount remains a Chelsea player and will be heading to the World Cup to represent England. The time away from the club could allow him space to recuperate and refresh his batteries for the grand tournament, and then he can look forward to returning to Stamford Bridge.
