Stan Collymore has urged Liverpool to pursue 29-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer after his departure from Manchester United.

In his exclusive column for Caught Offside, Stan Collymore has discussed the future of Marcel Sabitzer. The 29-year-old has returned to Bayern Munich after his short loan stint with Manchester United. And the former Liverpool striker has urged the Reds to sign the versatile midfielder this summer.

Marcel Sabitzer has reached a crossroads in his career after the end of his stint with Manchester United. Midway through his second stint with Bayern Munich, the Austrian international embarked on a loan spell in England. And he was arguably a solid performer for Manchester United in the few opportunities he received.

The 29-year-old chipped in with three goals and one assist in 18 appearances for Manchester United. But Sabitzer’s future is uncertain after returning to Bayern Munich, as he does not feature in Thomas Tuchel’s plans. In addition, he will not join Manchester United permanently in the summer transfer window.

Recent reports suggested intermediaries had offered Barcelona the chance to sign the former RB Leipzig captain. But that story has not developed much, meaning Sabitzer’s future is up in the air. And now, Stan Collymore has urged Liverpool to launch the offensive for him after his Manchester United departure.

The former Liverpool attacker said, “There have been recent reports that the Bavarians are happy for the Austrian to leave permanently for a fee of just €15m – if that is true, I cannot believe Manchester United haven’t snapped their hand off already.”

“If they’re not going to take Bayern Munich up on it, I wonder if Klopp will think about it. He’s proven he can play in the Premier League and that fee is almost too good to turn down, especially when it’s senior international-level midfielders you’re in the market for!”

Collymore’s words ring true, considering Sabitzer has proven himself in the Premier League. But it is unclear how the 29-year-old might fit into the scheme of things at Anfield. With Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai joining Liverpool, the Reds need a more defensive-minded midfielder. But it will be interesting to see if they launch the offensive for the Austrian midfielder.
