Barcelona will reportedly have the opportunity to sign 29-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, who will join Manchester United permanently.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, intermediaries have offered Barcelona the chance to sign Marcel Sabitzer. Bayern Munich will listen to offers for the 29-year-old midfielder in the summer transfer window. And he will not join Manchester United permanently when his loan deal expires.

Marcel Sabitzer has seen his career come to a stuttering halt since joining Bayern Munich from RB Leipzig in August 2021. The Austrian international barely featured in his debut season with the Bavarian giants. And after a frustrating first half of the 2022/23 campaign, he joined Manchester United on loan in the January transfer window this year.

The 29-year-old was an asset for Manchester United, chipping in with three goals and one assist in 18 appearances across all competitions. But Sabitzer’s future is uncertain following the expiration of his loan deal with Manchester United. And the Red Devils have decided against signing him permanently in the summer transfer window.

The former RB Leipzig captain does not have a future at Bayern Munich either. And the Bundesliga champions are ready to listen to offers for the versatile midfielder. Meanwhile, intermediaries have offered Barcelona the opportunity to sign the outgoing Manchester United star in the summer transfer window.

Sabitzer’s versatility means he can be an asset as a holding midfielder. And with Xavi Hernandez considering handing an offensive role to new signing Ilkay Gundogan, the 29-year-old can be an option for the defensive midfield berth. So the Bayern Munich outcast can be a short-term replacement for Sergio Busquets.

The report does not reveal if Barcelona will take up the offer to sign the 29-year-old midfielder. But he can be a solid option for the Blaugrana. And with Franck Kessie facing an uncertain future at Spotify Camp Nou, Barcelona should invest in another midfielder this summer.

Marcelo Brozovic is a top target for Barcelona, but Al Nassr will provide stiff competition to them for the Croatian international. And it will be interesting to see if Sabitzer emerges as an alternative to Brozovic in the coming weeks.
