Josko Gvardiol, a target for Chelsea, has revealed that he is keen on joining Real Madrid if an opportunity to presents itself in the future.

In a conversation with journalists after Croatia’s game against Belgium, as quoted by 90min, Josko Gvardiol revealed his desire to join Real Madrid. The RB Leipzig defender is the subject of interest from Chelsea over a possible move next summer.

Josko Gvardiol has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga since joining RB Leipzig from Dinamo Zagreb. The 20-year-old experienced some teething problems but has been solid whenever he has turned out for the German outfit in the last 18 months.

The Croatian international has turned out 65 times for RB Leipzig thus far, chipping in with three goals and four assists. And he is currently stamping his authority at the 2022 FIFA World Cup with the Vatreni. Meanwhile, Gvardiol’s progress has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Chelsea.

Recent reports have even claimed that the Blues are optimistic about signing the youngster from RB Leipzig next year. But Chelsea might not have Gvardiol for long even if they sign him, with the player revealing his desire to represent Real Madrid. He even said he does not need Luka Modric to sell the Real Madrid project to him.

“Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world, so who knows? Maybe one day I can play there. I would like to, yes. Luka doesn’t have to tell me anything about Real Madrid, there’s no need. I already know everything. I know it’s the biggest club in the world and how important it is to be linked to such a team.”

The reigning La Liga champions have shown interest in several centre-backs, including Jurrien Timber. But reports have not linked Real Madrid with Gvardiol yet. So Chelsea will likely sign the 20-year-old before he gets the opportunity to move to Real Madrid.

The Croatian international has said that he is open to joining Chelsea. And with the Blues reportedly on the verge of signing Christopher Nkunku, a summer reunion with Gvardiol might also be on the cards.
