French international defender Jean-Clair Todibo has been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months.

Jean-Clair Todibo has hinted in an interview via Daily Mirror that he could be open to a move in the summer, and the revelation will come as a major boost for clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United, who are keen on signing him.

“I am at Nice and we’re having a great season. I don’t have my head elsewhere. If I did it would be difficult for me personally and for the group too. I feel really good at Nice. We’ll see what happens in the summer but we’re not there yet. I don’t want to get ahead of myself. I don’t want to give false hope. For now, I’m here at Nice.

“Football moves quickly, you never know what’s going to happen. I’ll wait until the summer to make my decision. If my decision is to stay, I’ll announce it, if it is to leave, I’ll announce it too and I’ll thank everyone, but we’re not there yet.”

The 24-year-old has been a key player for OGC Nice this season, and his performances in Ligue 1 have been outstanding. It is no surprise that top Premier League clubs are keen on securing his services. Todibo could develop into a top-class Premier League defender and improve the two clubs defensively.

Chelsea need to bring in a quality long-term replacement for Thiago Silva, and the Frenchman certainly fits the profile. Apart from his quality as a defender, his distribution skills will come in handy at the back as well.

Meanwhile, Manchester United could lose players Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire in the coming months. So, they will need to bring in adequate replacements. Todibo is good enough to improve the Red Devils defensively, and he be Lisandro Martinez’s long-term partner.

The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with other English clubs as well, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up. Nice will not want to let him leave for a reasonable amount of money, and they could easily demand a premium for their star defender. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea and Manchester United are prepared to break the bank for him.

Both clubs will have to improve defensively if they want to compete for major trophies in the coming seasons. They have been quite vulnerable at the back recently and cannot hope to compete for major trophies without addressing their defensive frailties.
