Emile Heskey urges Liverpool to sign Marc Guehi, Antoine Semenyo

Emile Heskey have urged Liverpool to sign Manchester City duo Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo.

Emile Heskey has urged Liverpool to pursue Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo, with the former Reds striker recommending the move should Manchester City be forced to sell following their Premier League financial charges case.

City have been found guilty of breaching 115 financial charges relating to the period between 2009 and 2018. The club deny wrongdoing and have challenged the verdict, while an independent panel considers the appropriate sanctions. A severe punishment could have significant financial consequences for City, potentially forcing them to sell some of their leading players.

What Guehi and Semenyo could bring to the table

Speaking exclusively to TEAMtalk, Heskey suggested that Liverpool should take advantage of any opportunity to sign the two players, who are valued at a combined £131 million.

“Yes, they should definitely go for them if the chance arises,” Heskey told TEAMtalk.

With Ibrahima Konate leaving and captain Virgil van Dijk’s long-term future unclear, the Reds could need another reliable centre-back to help rebuild their backline. Guehi would be a particularly attractive option given Liverpool’s defensive uncertainty.

“You try and pick up players at the best rate you could possibly get when it happens. We’ve seen Leicester have to sell off the whole squad, apart from the young lads. So it happens. That’s what happens in football.”

Heskey argued that Guehi’s Chelsea background, rooted in possession-based defence, would suit Liverpool’s requirements. The former English striker sees Guehi as a capable centre-back who could make an immediate impact.

On the player’s defensive profile, Heskey explained: “I think Marc Guehi is a very composed, strong defender. He’s strong in one-on-ones, and he’s very composed on the ball because he’s played at that level.”

Semenyo could address Liverpool’s attacking-depth need following Mohamed Salah’s departure. Though Bradley Barcola joined the forward line during the summer, they still need a proper right-winger.

Heskey is equally enthusiastic about the Ghana international’s qualities: “Semenyo is a very explosive attacking player who’s got an eye for goal. He’s exactly what the top four teams want in a wide player. Not only do you create, but you’re explosive enough to go and score some goals yourself.”

The 48-year-old believes the Reds should be ready to act should Manchester City’s circumstances create an opportunity to sign Guehi and Semenyo at favourable prices. The Merseyside club did try to sign the duo before they joined City, and now they could have another shot at bringing them to Anfield, as they will significantly bolster their squad and give them everything they need to push for all major honours.
