Marcos Alonso made the difference for Chelsea against a resolute Newcastle United side as they grabbed a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
True to nature, Newcastle United defended in numbers, conceding few opportunities to Chelsea. The Blues, though, did have plenty of chances to break the deadlock, with Willian, Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham failing to provide the finishing touches inside the box.
Chelsea finally grabbed a well deserved lead in the 73rd minute, when Callum Hudson-Odoi found Marcos Alonso at the edge of the box, before the Spaniard’s driven shot slammed into the bottom right corner. The hosts held on to the slender advantage for the remainder of the game, and fans hailed Hudson-Odoi for a fantastic performance.

Hudson-Odoi’s streak continues.
He has a goal or assist in every competitive game, for club & country, since he’s been back from injury. pic.twitter.com/UmxSEf9FoX

Callum Hudson-Odoi & Christian Pulisic.
Always believed they should be the first-choice WG’s and for the 25 minutes they played together today, their link-up only reaffirmed my belief.
Sooner rather than later… it’s happening.#CFC | #CHENEW pic.twitter.com/Hd0lWscR3N

Hudson-Odoi was worth all the stress he caused us with the Bayern saga. Absolute baller.. man can’t stop assisting.

Jorginho, great range of passing and controlled the game with ease, my MOTM.
— Pys (@CFCPys) October 19, 2019
Mateo Kovacic and Christian Pulisic made all the difference coming off the bench for Chelsea and the supporters lauded the duo.
Kovacic & Pulisic the difference today, both class when they came on. Jorginho another MOTM performance. Tammy really unlucky not to get on the score sheet. Crucial 3 points, and in the Top 4 for now.

Fair play to Frank Lampard, proved today that he keeps evolving as a manager.
Chelsea were dire in the first half and too slow in possession, but the introduction of Kovacic for a horrible Barkley (injured or not) and Pulisic, combined with a faster tempo really changed the game
— EiF (@EiFSoccer) October 19, 2019
That’s a massive 3 pts. Pulisic and Kovacic make us incredibly better. Lampard should open his eyes and integrate them into the starting 11
— KanteNation (@sethaadusei) October 19, 2019
Pulisic instantly sprung this team to life, imagine my shock. Certain people say he shouldn’t be a starter in this team. Absolute jokers
