Bernardo Silva coy on future amid Barcelona links

Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva has refused to comment on his future amid links with Barcelona over a summer move.

Speaking to reporters after Portugal’s 2-0 win over the Czech Republic this week, as quoted by Goal, Bernardo Silva refused to comment on his future. Widespread speculation has been mounting around the Manchester City playmaker, with Barcelona reportedly keen on securing his services in the summer transfer window.

Bernardo Silva has rediscovered his mojo after a scintillating 2021/22 campaign where played an instrumental role in Manchester City’s Premier League title defence. The 27-year-old amassed 13 goals and seven assists in 50 appearances across all competitions, establishing himself as a pivotal figure for City.

But despite his heroics, he faces an uncertain future at the Etihad Stadium as he is open to leaving Manchester City to embark on a new adventure in the summer transfer window. Such a situation has captured the attention of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Barcelona.

Barcelona could lose Frenkie de Jong in the summer transfer window amid their continued financial distress. And the Blaugrana might have to cash in on the Dutch international to lighten their wage bill and fund moves in the summer transfer window.

But before sanctioning de Jong’s sale, Barcelona will have to scour the market for an able replacement, which has brought several midfielders on their radar. Bernardo Silva is one of the candidates to replace de Jong at Camp Nou, with recent reports claiming he is awaiting an approach from Barcelona.

Despite mounting speculation surrounding his future, the Manchester City playmaker has refused to comment on his future. Silva said, “Unfortunately, I won’t be able to answer, because I’m at the service of the national team and super focused on the game that remains. When the season ends, we’ll see what happens.”

While Silva is an attractive target for Barcelona, Manchester City’s reported €100 million price tag threatens to end the Catalan club’s pursuit of the 27-year-old before it even begins. But recent reports have claimed that Barcelona could float the idea of swapping de Jong with Silva. However, Manchester United’s relentless push to sign de Jong might complicate matters.
