Xabi Alonso prefers to join Bayern Munich over Liverpool as the 42-year-old might make an important career decision.

According to Sky Sports, Xabi Alonso might prefer a switch to Bayern Munich instead of Liverpool should he decide to leave Bayer Leverkusen. The Spaniard has been the Merseysiders’ top managerial target to replace Jurgen Klopp, as they might face defeat in the chase.

Xabi Alonso to choose Bayern Munich over Liverpool?

The managerial race for Xabi Alonso may have taken a wicked twist for Liverpool, with the Spaniard reportedly preferring a switch to Bayern Munich. The two clubs have competed in the last months for the 42-year-old, who is on the verge of clinching the Bundesliga title with Bayer Leverkusen.

Alonso has been unsure about the Liverpool job for some time, as he may desire to stay in Germany and continue his dominance in the Bundesliga. Bayern Munich are an exceptional option for him should he leave his current surroundings, as the Bavarian giants offer him a big chance to compete at the top in Europe.

Alonso might stay at his current side, and while Bayer Leverkusen are confident of keeping him, although, they will not stand in his way should he desire a switch. Regarding the interested parties, the 42-year-old Liverpool managerial target was recently part of Bayern’s honorary president Uli Hoeness’ comments.

Hoeness said, “He [Alonso] has proved that he can be a coach for the big time. There are hardly any suitable coaches who are currently free. Rather they are coaches who are under contract somewhere and possibly have great success.”

Liverpool are already assessing their other options instead of the Spaniard, although they might retain an interest in the hope of signing him in the future. However, Alonso is widely regarded as becoming the next Real Madrid manager and might feel staying in Germany would boost his chances of replacing Carlo Ancelotti, as a move to Liverpool might hamper his dream.

Who are Liverpool’s alternative options?

Quite bizarrely, Liverpool have seen links to Andre Villas-Boas, although the chances of this happening are slim to none. After a few good seasons with the club, they are interested in another Portuguese man with Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim.

Amorim is the leading candidate for the Liverpool job if Alonso refuses to succeed Jurgen Klopp. There are names like Roberto De Zerbi, among others, as the Reds will ramp up their efforts under new FSG CEO of Football Michael Edwards and new sporting director Richard Huges.
