Chelsea have added Feyenoord’s Arne Slot to the list of potential Mauricio Pochettino replacements and could make a move for the Dutchman.
According to Fichajes, Chelsea admire Arne Slot and could consider the 45-year-old Dutchman as a potential replacement for Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine coach could get the sack should performances diminish between now and the end of the season, and they have many names to replace him, including the current Feyenoord boss.
Arne Slot to replace Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea?
Mauricio Pochettino’s job at Chelsea has come under the scanner as results continue to go against the Argentine. Chelsea are far away from any European places heading into the end of the campaign, having dropped points again last weekend.
While the pressure mounted on the Argentine following Chelsea’s League Cup Final loss to Liverpool, they drew at Brentford on the weekend despite being two goals ahead. Widespread reports are suggesting that the Blues will part ways with Pochettino, although they might keep him if he manages European qualification.
European qualification seems difficult but possible as Chelsea are only six points behind seventh-placed West Ham United. In any case, the board have considered several names, with former Tottenham target and current Feyenoord boss Arne Slot emerging as a target to replace Pochettino should the Argentine get the sack.
Slot has been tremendous in the Eredivisie, leading Feyenoord to the title last season. This time around, the 45-year-old Dutchman has only managed to steer them into second place, and it appears that they will finish behind PSV in the title race. In any case, he signed a new deal last summer amid Tottenham’s interest, although should a club like Chelsea come in, he might take up the role.
Who are Chelsea’s other managerial targets?
While Arne Slot is the latest to emerge on their list, Chelsea have considered a host of other names, including Brentford’s Thomas Frank, as a possible successor to Pochettino. Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi is also a strong candidate, and should they sign him, it will be two Brighton managers they would have sought in a short space of time.
Outgoing Barcelona boss Xavi is also a candidate, while Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim also features on Todd Boehly’s list. Either way, should Chelsea sack Pochettino, they will have plenty of options to consider, including Slot.
