Liverpool are willing to offer 44-year-old Micheal Edwards equity in the club to make a return to Anfield as their sporting director.

According to Keith Wyness via Football Insider, Liverpool are keen on bringing Michael Edwards back to the club. The Reds are looking for a new sporting director to take charge of the club and their priority is to bring the 44-year-old back to Anfield. They are willing to offer him equity in the club to make the move happen.

Edwards was a part of the Liverpool setup for over a decade. He served in multiple roles and was a great servant of the club. He did some exceptional work for them in terms of transfers post-2016 and that helped the Reds dominate Europe.

He parted ways with the Merseyside club in the summer of 2022 and has since been without a role. Meanwhile, Liverpool parted ways with Jorg Schmadtke after the end of the winter transfer window and they have since been on the lookout for a new sporting director.

Liverpool to make an unprecedented offer

While they are is no real rush, former Everton and Aston Villa chief Keith Wyness the Reds to want sort the situation out as soon as possible and their priority for the role is Edwards. The club’s ownership highly admires him for his excellent work over the years and they are willing to put forward an unprecedented offer to lure him back.

According to Wyness, the Reds are willing to give him equity in the club. If they do end up making that kind of an offer, it will be the first time someone in that position actually ends up becoming an owner.

Wyness said: “Michael Edwards may even be offered some equity in the club to come back.

Edwards has already rejected an approach from the FSG, as a result, it has been widely reported that they will return with an offer that he might not be able to turn down. An offer that has never been made for someone who has made their name negotiating transfers and contracts.

While there is no certain deadline, Liverpool are looking to make a final decision by the end of April so that they enter the new era with a new manager in the best possible way.
