Liverpool are keen to make one final push to convince Michael Edwards over a return to the club with some ambitious plans in the works.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Liverpool could make a big push to convince Michael Edwards to rejoin the club. The 44-year-old transfer guru is still considered an essential figure in the corridors of Anfield, with the club owners, FSG, keen on offering him a significant role and letting him take over football operations at the club.

Liverpool set for a big push to bring Michael Edwards

Liverpool are keen on bringing about a new project since some changes are afoot. The impending departure of Jurgen Klopp in the summer will trigger some shake-ups at the club, with FSG planning on a new structure in the background.

While there are links to new managers and sporting directors, Liverpool are more intent on bringing someone to oversee football operations at the club. The idea signals the club’s intent to move in a different direction than they have been, with more top clubs emphasising football operations, as Liverpool is simply following suit.

They are keen on former sporting director Michael Edwards to take over that role and manage the football side of things. Liverpool would like the 44-year-old transfer guru to have a new sporting director under his command to oversee other aspects of the game, but he has yet to answer.

There have been rumours that Liverpool failed to re-appoint Edwards for the sporting director’s role earlier, but now they have different plans for the 44-year-old transfer guru. FSG wants Edwards to put a new structure in place and could offer him a massive role, although he is far from yes.

Will Michael Edwards rejoin Liverpool?

There was a curious trend at Liverpool since the summer of 2022, when Edwards quit the club, something that was known well in advance. After him, his deputy and successor Julian Ward stopped relatively quickly, which spoke a lot about some of the happenings in the background.

With Edwards reportedly not wanting to return to the club, it speaks volumes that the 44-year-old transfer guru may not like to re-establish himself in the Sporting Director’s role. Hence, probably why Liverpool owners are intent on making a final push to bring him in a much bigger role, although so far there are no indications from the 44-year-old that he will accept this proposal.
