Liverpool expected to interview Ruben Amorim

Liverpool are set to step up their chase a new manager ahead of a pivotal summer. Jurgen Klopp has already decided to leave the club once the season concludes, putting pressure on the Merseysiders to find a candidate capable of replacing the German tactician.

A host of options have come to the surface through media links, with the likes of Xabi Alonso, Ange Postecoglou, Julian Nagelsmann and Ruben Amorim all considered essential candidates. However, there are challenges in signing either of those. But Liverpool are impressed with Amorim, having recently scouted the 39-year-old Sporting CP boss.

Conflicting reports state different stories regarding Amorim’s release clause, as the Spanish media insists it is close to €20 million, while this report says it is around the €10 million mark. Either way, Liverpool will have to pay something to Sporting to take their manager away, as the Merseysiders are stepping up their effort to bring the Portuguese gaffer.

Amorim also features on the list of several other clubs, including Newcastle United, while Chelsea have also had interest in the past. Hence, Liverpool will face acute competition for Amorim should they narrow their search down to the 39-year-old in the summer.

Is Ruben Amorim Liverpool’s primary candidate?

While Amorim has had his admirers, including Barcelona, he might look at the jobs in the Premier League with interest. While he remains linked with the Liverpool job, he may not be their primary candidate, with Xabi Alonso widely considered the primary target.

Alonso remains unsure about taking up the Liverpool job as the Spaniard weighs up his options, including Bayern Munich and a potential future move to Real Madrid. Liverpool will try their best to convince the Bayer Leverkusen man, although someone like Amorim could be their top alternative should their priority signing not materialise.
